Jejudo painting
Jeju's Volcanic Coast
Original Artwork | 40 × 40 cm
Inspired by the volcanic landscapes of Jeju Island, this artwork captures the quiet beauty of one of Korea's most iconic coastlines. A solitary bird rests upon a traditional black stone wall, overlooking the sea and the silhouette of Seongsan Ilchulbong, while a tangerine tree recalls one of the island's most recognizable symbols.
Painted in acrylic and gouache, this piece is distinguished by its highly textured volcanic wall. To recreate the authentic appearance of Jeju's basalt stones, I incorporated real volcanic sand collected on Jeju Island, giving the surface a tactile quality that reflects the island's unique geological identity. Metallic gold accents subtly catch the light, adding depth and movement throughout the composition.
More than a landscape, this painting is a tribute to Jeju—a place where nature, tradition and memory meet. It invites the viewer to experience not only the scenery, but also the textures and atmosphere that make the island unforgettable.
